We made it!

We are alive and well! Still working on getting settled in here, but everyday we get a step closer, mostly. Everything seems to go much more slowly here than they do stateside. Literally, just about everything. We have the essentials now....wifi, an apartment, school, beds, and a car. This has taken us almost 5 months.

We thought it would be fun to set up this blog to keep anyone and everyone from home up to date with our adventure as well as to have a place to tell the story of our time here for our record and memories. So much has already happened and been experienced in the past 5 months...we don't want to forget a second of it :)

We will be trying to rehash and post every story, trial, laugh, the struggles and victories, the differences in culture, and the chaos that comes when you relocate a family of two darlings, two very Americanized chihuahuas, a housewife from Texas, and our Renaissance man...all the moments to get everyone caught up to where we are now. It has been a journey with ups and downs, to say the least. This whole process has been much harder than I thought it would be and in ways I didn't expect. Lord willing, though, it will all be worth it! A brief recap to get us started...

We made it. That's the Dom!

We shopped for some essentials when P's luggage didn't make it on the same flight as us.

It rained. A lot.

There was jet lag.

We caught up with old friends.

Made new friends.

We have had some ice cream. Once or twice ;)

Found Starbucks. *It is windy by the Dom, people!!*

Thanked our friends for letting us stay with them while simultaneously
helping them stretch after soccer practice.

We have traveled.

Had a first day of school. Twice.

Missed our friends back home. A lot.

Enjoyed some Backerei goods.

Traveled some more. *Note to self: the shortest person in the group should not be taking the selfie with her arm. Someone with their go-go gadget arm should from here on out be in charge of this task!*

Moved three times.

Got things in order for our flat when it was ready.

More traveling.

Used the train system. This is the ICE.

Utilized Skype and FaceTime.

Waited for countless hours to get the paperwork
completed for just about everything you can imagine.

Had more Eis.

Spent our summer days at the beach.

Scoured the flea markets for essential German necessities.

Got us some wheels...

...and hit the trails.

More paperwork and meetings than you can shake a stick at.

Toured the countryside by bike....

...to a medieval wine festival.

Rooted for the home team.

Took some day trips to soak in the history all around us.

And we have sampled the local food :)

We have so many stories we would love to share with you!! Feel free to leave comments or if you have questions or requests for insight into something...just ask away!

Love and hugs,
jess
